WHAT IS ACT-PHILIPPINES?

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers-Philippines is a progressive, militant and nationalist organization of teachers, academic non-teaching personnel and non-academic non-teaching personnel established in June 26, 1982. It is the largest non-traditional teachers’ organization in the country which works for the economic and political well-being of teachers and all other education workers as well as for genuine social transformation.

WHAT ARE ACT’S OBJECTIVES?

  1. To unite teachers and other education workers to struggle for their democratic rights and economic welfare.
  2. To advance a nationalist, scientific and mass-oriented education.
  3. To encourage active and dynamic participation of teachers and other education workers in social transformation.
  4. To represent, assist and defend its affiliates and their individual members, in particular, and the teachers and other education workers, in general, in the advancement of their legitimate rights and interests.
  5. To launch campaigns to protect human rights, the environment and the national minorities/indigenous peoples, promote gender equality, genuine land reform, workers’ rights, and be involved with other social issues.
  6. To help in the formation of the broadest unity of all oppressed sectors of Philippine society in advancing the interests of the Filipino people.
  7. To unite with progressive individuals, groups and movements abroad who share common beliefs and aspirations with ACT-Philippines.

HOW CAN ONE BE A MEMBER OF ACT?

  1. Fill up an application form after getting a short orientation from an organizer.
  2. A person who applies for membership is presumed to support and accept the principles and objectives as embodied in its constitution and orientation.
  3. A member is encouraged to actively participate in the different activities sponsored by ACT especially those that will benefit his/her interests.
  4. A member should be prompt in the payment of his/her membership fee and annual dues.  A membership fee of P50 for individuals will be paid upon approval of membership, and then an annual due of P100 shall be paid thereafter. An ACT ID will be issued to members who qualify
  5. For faculty clubs or associations who want to affiliate with ACT, membership fee is as follows:
  • For faculty clubs with 11 to 49 members P400.00 and annual dues of P300.00 and each member pays P25 for his/her ID.
  • For faculty clubs with 50 to 100 members P800.00 and annual dues of P700.00 and each member pays P25 for his/her ID.
  • For faculty clubs with 101 to 150 members P1, 300.00 and annual dues of P1, 000.00 and each member pays P25 for his/her ID.
  • For faculty clubs with 151 to 200 members P1, 800.00 and annual dues of P1, 500.00 and each member pays P25 for his/her ID.
  • For faculty clubs with 201 to 250 members P2, 300.00 and annual dues of P2, 000.00 and each member pays P25 for his/her ID.
  • For faculty clubs with 251 and above members P2, 800.00 and annual dues of P2, 500.00 and each member pays P25 for his/her ID.
  1. Affiliation fees of teachers’ municipal, city-wide, system-wide or province-wide associations will depend on the number of their member schools.   In all cases, an amount of P25.00 shall be charged per member to cover the cost of ID.
  2. Part of your payment is given to Education International to pay for annual membership dues.

WHO CAN BE MEMBERS OF ACT?

  • Membership in ACT is open to national and regional organizations whose membership or composition include federations, unions, alliances, cooperatives, political, disciplinal or interest associations of teachers and of education workers.  Active and nationalist teaching and non-teaching personnel working in the education sector in all levels (pre-school, elementary, secondary and tertiary) in both public and private institutions who are members of an education-based organization are eligible.
  • Students of education who are also prospective teachers and education workers are welcome to be part of the organization.
  • Individual members who are qualified are also accepted.

THE ACT CHAPTER:

A group of seven individuals from a particular school who are ACT members can form an ACT Chapter in that particular school.
